2003 dances
Many of the dances you see today, in the dancehall or in the videos, are created
by the legenday Bogle (further down you will notice a dance named after himself.)
and more recently John Hype. Many of the 2003 dances can be seen in this
clip featuring John Hype and his crew (real player needed). Music videos
which can help include all of Sean Paul's videos especially "Like Glue"
and "Pon di Riva" by Elephant Man.
Blazay/Blah
de Blah - (click on a speed under "John Hype Performance" windows
media player needed)
- sort of hard to decribe
- mimic digging your foot into sand and flicking it
- the foot that is not moving is slightly bent
- then switch the roles of your legs
- arms go in a motion similar to skipping
Rockaway
- (click on a speed under "John Hype Performance" windows
media player needed)
- while on your right foot, hold your left foot up and out (bent)
- move around by going on your heel, then on toe (kinda rotating your foot
to move)
- left foot does a similar motion in the air
- switch feet when u want
Propella
- (click on a speed under "John Hype Performance" windows
media player needed)
- basically wave your hand over your head like a propeller
- put some style to it (pleassssssssse)
Fly
Out - (click on a speed under "John Hype Performance" windows
media player needed)
- hop on one foot forwards
- the foot not being hopped on is back and bent
- move arms kinda like a chicken
- switch feet
Zagga
Zow - (click on a speed under "John Hype Performance" windows
media player needed)
- Arms up at 45 degrees
- bend your left arm
- punch the air with your right hand
- continue to do this
- let your body move with the motion of the arm
- (kinda reminds me of tai bo for some reason)
The
Wash - (click on a speed under "New Dance - The Wash" windows
media player needed)
- go like you are hand washing clothes
- go down low and scrub the clothing
- ring it out
- flap it in the air
- hang it up (putting clothes pins up)
- get your next piece of clothing
Chop Deh Grass
- You bend your knees and lean over forward.
- Your left arm stays basically in the same place straight ahead while the
other arm goes from the far right across over to your left side, simulating
you using a machete to cut the grass.
- Your can start with your legs apart and then when you cut the grass (moving
your arm) you bring your legs together.
- Continue this and you can walk with
it backwards, forward wards or in any direction with the dance.
Fly Deh Kite
- Basically you are pretending that you are flying a kite, go figure.
- Your hands are above your head, closely together and then you pretend the
wind is blowing your kite and you are reeling it in, or letting it out, it's
blowing to the right it's getting away, you are stealing someone else's kite,
etc.
- Very basic dance but it can be funny especially if the mic man is calling
out what to do.
Parachute
- (click on a speed under "Keiva the Diva Performance" windows
media player needed)
- Not a lot of movement, similar Fly Deh Kite in the sense that your hands
are above your head and you acting out that you have a
parachute on, and are controlling it.
- Your arms can stretch out behind your head and move towards the front, there
isn't much leg movement.
Signal
Deh Plane - (click on a speed under "Keiva the Diva Performance"
windows media player needed)
|
- First part, signal the plane. Your arms stretch to the right and left,
right arm to the right, left arm to the left.
- Move your arms above your head to form and X and then back out again,
continue to do this.
- When your arms are over your head doing the X, your knees lean in
towards each other \/ and then out again.
- Bounce with the movement.
- Second part, call in the plane. Your left hand is out straight in
front of your body, then your right hand is straight out but you bend
your elbow and move your arm towards your body
- Lean back like you are directing the plane. Think of the man at the
airport that has the orange batons.

Whip Out (Fan Out) Deh Devil
- Stomp your left foot and make a clockwise circular motion with your body.
You are leaning out with your left hip and move you waist around.
- Take your right hand by your left shoulder and make a big circular motion
with it all the way around in the air, kinda like you are dusting off somebody.
- Keep doing this, you can lean with it, and over exaggerate the moves in
any direction.
Call In Yuh Friend
- Just the opposite as Whip Out Deh Devil, but everything is reversed. Stomp
your right foot, and lean out with your right hip and go round.
- Take your left hand start on the left side and make a circular motion all
the way around.
Time Out
- Imitate a referee.
- You can lean back, pretend to blow a whistle. Make a call, i.e. traveling
(rolling your hands over each other) pointing to the right or left, calling
a time out - making a T with your hands
Pon
Deh River (Pon Deh Bank) - (click on a speed under "Keiva the Diva
Performance" windows media player needed)
- This is one dance where it's all about moving your feet.
- You jump/skip with your right foot twice and then switch left foot twice,
and lean back.
- Your knee is bent and in the air.
- When your right foot is up your left hand is bent and then vise versa.
- When the song goes, "Give dem deh run" it's like you are talking
long strides running, it's over exaggerated because you are stretching out
your legs as though you were in a race and bend your back.
- When the song goes "go down deh flank" you stay hopping on one
foot heading towards one direction (right or left), kinda like you are juggling
a soccer ball, but only with one foot. Then right back to Pon Deh River part.
Row
Deh Boat - (click on a speed under "Keiva the Diva Performance"
windows media player needed)
- Your legs are slightly up one at at time,
- Lift your left leg while making like u are paddling on the left side
- While doing this, slightly lean back
- Do the same thing on the right side
- As you change sides lean a little forward to make the dance one motion (leaning
forward and back, rowing left and right)
- Variations include having hands like you are paddling with them (as opposed
to holding a paddle), rowing with hands on each side (sorta like a pelvic
thrust) and the lazy mans rocking with no hands. (seen too often in Bermuda)
Wave (check out Wayne Wonder's video)
- Lean back
- Pop your shoulder move one arm at a time from the back then around to the
front of your body.
- Bend your knee, and lift up your leg, opposite foot to hand.
- Kinda like swimming
Chaplin
|
- If you are fimilar with the actor Charlie Chaplin than you can do
the dance right. You know how he holds his cane and moves side to side
with his feet out and his back slightly bent well that how you do the
dance.
- Many variations
- One way is to start by taking one foot at a time. You can move your
foot on your toe then heel fast then stop and pose, you can put your
hands on your hips, etc.
- Basically it is, move then pose.
|
Spiderman
- lift your right leg up and to the side while bending at the knee.
- at the same time have your hands at waist level but sticking outward.....sorta
like making a "airplane" but with just your hands. (arms are not
straight down, just sorta relaxed)
- bring your right leg back down while making your hands come towards the
front of your body. (you can go into a clap or just touch wrists).
- next lean a little back and open your hands in the same way as before.
- then close them into the clap/wrist touch.
- then u lift your left leg, and same motion with your hands again
- lower the leg and close hands again.
- lean back like before and do the same hand motions
- its basically like this......right>> lean >> left>> lean,
while at the same time moving your hands.
- for each movement, turn your body slightly in the direction and lean slightly
when on one leg

The
Jerry Springer
A creative dance named after the popular TV talk show. The Jerry Springer show
is renowned for the fights and quarrels that break out between guests and in
the same vain this dance is supposed to show some sort of upward downward fighting
motion. Unfortunately everyone has their own idea of what a Jerry Springer fight
looks like, nobody seems to do the dance the same way.

wave motion with your top half.
